Giovanni Chiappini proud winemaker and father

Giovanni Chiappini: The strength, enthusiasm and love of a family …
Here are the values of the land.

Giovanni Chiappini Bolgheri

Martina Chiappini is one of the first person I met when I moved in Bolgheri. She is my age but luckily she is already mother of 2 wonderful children. Her family estate is in Via Bolgherese, right after Tenuta dell’Ornellaia. The atmosphere there is so familiar and every time I felt very confortable to stop by.

Giovanni Chiappini, Martina’s father, moved with his family of growers from Marche to Bolgheri in the fifities… But, as Michele Satta, at the beginning he was cultivating vegetables.
The vineyards arrived in 1978 when Le Grottine was planted.
From that moment, Giovanni and now also his daughters Martina and Lisa spend their days among Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese and Vermentino.

In 2010 they shifted to fully organic agricultural production.
Nowadays the total area of the Giovanni Chiappini’s estate is about 23 hectares and comprises the 5 vineyards, some of them give the names also to the wines.
They are 8 in total:
Le Grottine, Bolgheri DOC, 100% Vermentino
Ferruggini, Bolgheri DOC (Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah)
Felciaino, Bolgheri DOC (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese)
Guado de’ Gemoli, Bolgheri DOC Superiore (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) whose 2009 vintage was awarded with 100 points by Wine Enthusiast
And the Lienà collection including 4 monovarietal wines: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Personally I like all the wines, of course Guado de Gemoli is something to be tasted but I also enjoy the Lienà collection: the monovarietals are good to learn about wine. When the wine is pure, not blended, you can really understand the particularities of the single varietal and understand how the terroir influences the wines: you will see how amazing is the difference between a Merlot grown in Bolgheri or one grown in Verona for example!

The estate not only produces wine: there is also a B&B with swimming pool.
So now, I leave you and I go on chatting with Martina by the pool with a glass of Vermentino :-)

If you want to enjoy my joyful experience, I can take you to Giovanni Chiappini with me.
